He was Dr. Light's first robot who disguised himself as Break Man in his encounters with Mega Man before the Wily stages (MM3). Proto Man has less vitality than Mega Man in this remake and a slightly different arsenal of moves (including Rush). It's well worth the 2 dollars even if you beat the normal version of the game already. The overall consensus is Proto Man is more badass than Mega Man in any Capcom game.
